Match Report
With several games again being postponed due to the wet weather, thankfully Memorial Park was playable and Thornton Hibs recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Steelend Vics.

The Hibs flew out the traps and in the second minute John Dickson played the ball in from the left but Ian Hepburn’s effort went wide of the post.

Two minutes later Thornton took the lead following a mistake from Vics’ ‘keeper Stuart Glancey. His goal kick gave Hibs possession and the ball was fed to Ross Morgan who crossed the ball for John Halley to slot the ball home at the far post.

In ten minutes a Hibs’ free kick found Hepburn but his lay-back was put wide by Adam Drummond.

A quality move doubled Hibs’ lead after 13 minutes. Keiran McGuire picked up the ball in the centre circle and the ball was passed to Ross Morgan then to Ian Hepburn who fed the ball to McGuire in the box to fire home his first goal of the season.

In 21 minutes Adam Drummond crossed into the box but Kevin Connolly couldn’t get his header on target. Five minutes later Ross Morgan was clean through on goal but his shot went agonisingly past the post.

After 33 minutes Vics’ Barry Paton had a shot from 20 yards but Scott Russell tipped it over the bar. Two minutes later Vics’ defender Steven Livingstone was booked for speaking out of turn but then took out his frustration by firing in a shot which went just wide of target.

In 36 minutes John Halley had a great run into the box but his shot only found the side netting.

Three minutes into the second half John Halley sent the ball in from the right but McGuire’s effort was just wide of the post. Three minutes later Adam Drummond saw his shot saved by Glancey.

Scott Russell launched a huge goal kick after 53 minutes which found Ross Morgan in the box. He went round Glancey and with the Hibs’ fans expecting him to slot the ball home he instead elected to square the ball and the chance was gone.

In 61 minutes a Halley corner was met by Jimmy Shields and his powerful header was saved by Glancey. Then Ross Morgan had a shot which came off the underside of the bar. There were appeals that the ball had bounced over the line but they were waved away by the referee.

Four minutes later Hibs made a double substitution bringing on John Paul Burns and Stuart McDonald. Burns made an immediate impact and first had a shot saved then hit the side net with another effort.

A Halley corner after 72 minutes saw John Dickson play the ball back but Shields header went just wide.

Hibs completed the scoring nine minutes from time when Halley played the ball in from the right for Stuart McDonald to fire the ball home at the far post
