Match Report
For the fourth game on the trot, Thornton Hibs failed to win a game despite taking the lead.

With Matthew Gay & John Paul Burns making their first appearance in front of the home support, the Hibs’ top scorer, Ross Morgan, found the net on the stroke of half-time after being set up by Burns.

Gary Thomson replaced Gay in the 63rd minute and within sixty seconds he extended Thornton's lead. A clever pass from Mark Mahkouli found Thomson eight yards from goal. With his first touch of the game he killed the ball and with his second he guided the ball beyond Dale Wotherspoon.

Hibs’ supporters must’ve thought that surely this time their team would collect the three points - but it wasn’t to be.

In the 73rd minute came the turning point. Steve McIntosh looked well offside before he reduced the leeway but the goal was allowed to stand and it was game on.

With five minutes remaining it was McIntosh again who did the damage although the Hibs’ players were culpable too. Stuart McFarlane was allowed to run some distance from his own half unchallenged before playing a perfect pass to McIntosh. He wasted no time before blasting the ball beyond Scott Russell.

Another bad day at the office then for Craig Gilbert’s men but the final word has to be on the performance of the 18-year-old ref who was officiating his first ever junior game. With the exception of the decision to allow the first Crossgates’ goal to stand he had an excellent game and if he continues like he did on Saturday, then it won’t be long until he steps up to the seniors. Mind the name – Scott Lambie.
