Match Report
Amid sweltering conditions, a first-half hat-trick from Gary Thomson paved the way for Thornton Hibs to clinch the league championship in some style.

A large travelling support saw Thomson give the Hibs the lead after only four minutes with a rasping drive into the postage stamp and he followed this up in the 25th minute by shooting home from the edge of the wee box.

Coco Mullen got in on the act in the 43rd minute as he put the ball in the net from close range and then right on half-time, Thomson completed the first-half scoring.

Although the scoreline would suggest otherwise, it hadn't been all one way traffic and Scott Russell made a good save from Paul Anderson with the score at 1-0 and an even better stop to deny Alan Bailley after Thomson had put Thornton two up.

In the 54th minute Mullen followed up to make it five after Jimmy Shields' header had been blocked on the line and then Adam Drummond had the final say with a shot from the edge of the area that David Winton got a hand to but couldn’t prevent from finding the net.

All that remained now was the presentation of the cup to the skipper, Ian Hepburn, by the association secretary, John Reilly, followed by an evening of great celebrations.
