Match Report
Two first-half defensive errors by Hibs’ defenders were punished by Glenrothes and in the end this was the difference between the sides.

And yet the Hibs began the game brightly and if either Gary Thomson’s header or Adam Drummond’s volley had found the net, there might’ve been a different outcome to the game.

Glenrothes went ahead in the 11th minute when Chris Mill mishit his passback allowing Scott Meikle to move onto the ball. He raced to the byeline before cutting the ball back to Sam Buchan who finished clinically.

The Hibs fought back and Clive Guppy was happy to push Stuart McDonald’s cross cum shot around the post for a fruitless corner-kick.

Just as it looked as if Buchan’s goal was going to be the only one of the first-half, the Hibs’ defence got themselves into a fankle and again it was that man Meikle who took full advantage as he rifled the ball low beyond Scott Russell.

Thornton had barely kicked-off when the referee called a halt to the first-half action so it was going to be an uphill battle in the second 45 for Craig Gilbert’s men.

There was no further scoring after the break although Lee Duffy and Sam Buchan had decent opportunities to extend the home side’s lead. At the other end, Ross Morgan was just out of luck when he moved onto Stuart McDonald’s free-kick. Near the end Mark Buist’s mistake was pounced on by John Halley but Clive Guppy came to Buist’s rescue as he saved twice from the Hibs’ striker and this just about summed up events of the day – Glenrothes buried their chances after the Hibs boobed but Thornton couldn’t capitalise when the home side slipped up.

It wasn’t a totally bad day for the Hibs however as they must look at the bigger picture – they were playing a side two leagues above them but gave a good account of themselves. The three new guys - Thomas McAllister, Keiran McGuire and Gary Thomson - all played well and whilst the future isn’t orange, it definitely appears to be bright for the men in green and white.
